St Barbara's Day in tunnelling: Blessing of the patron saint in the Lahntalbahn tunnel renovation project
/ Tunneling / News / Press Release
4 December is St Barbara's Day. On this day, miners and tunnellers commemorate their patron saint, Saint Barbara, and stop work for a moment. So do our tunnelling experts in the "Lahntalbahn tunnel renovation" project. As part of "St Barbara's Day", PORR, the consortium partners FELDHAUS Bergbau GmbH & Co. KG and Heinz Schnorpfeil Bau GmbH, representatives of the client Deutsche Bahn as well as the tunnel patrons at the Fachinger Tunnel honoured Saint Barbara.

Every year on 4 December, the patron saint is blessed to pray for her protection from accidents, from tunnel excavation to tunnel breakthrough. This has a long tradition in tunnelling, as everyday working life underground harbours challenges and dangers. Camaraderie, concentration and expertise are just as important as the protection of the patron saint.
"Saint Barbara is once again at our side to protect us during tunnelling and we are confident that we will complete the expansion of the Fachingen and Cramberg tunnels safely and successfully," says Folker Popp, project manager for the "Lahntalbahn tunnel renovation" project.
