Regional fire services practise height rescue on the Horb high bridge

/ Structural engineering / Health & Safety / Press Release

Working on construction sites is dangerous, especially at height. In order to protect the construction site team, PORR ensures early detection, elimination and prevention of accident hazards with comprehensive and tried-and-tested occupational safety concepts. Having recently passed the surveillance audit for SCCP certification on the Horb High Bridge with flying colours, the construction site of the Neckar Valley Bridge, which is up to 90 metres high, will be the venue for rescue exercises by regional fire brigades on several dates between April and late summer 2024. Two 100-metre cranes and a 60-metre crane as well as the up to 65-metre-high steel support structures from the bridge construction will serve as "training equipment".

The "Special Rescue at Heights and Depths" group from the Mercedes Benz plant fire service in Sindelfingen repeatedly train on two different days on how to rescue injured persons from heights, how to handle equipment and safety systems and how to organise safety chains. They have to master these procedures for rescuing and treating accident victims and securing other rescue workers at dizzying heights. Rescuing helpless people from the crane at height is also part of the programme. The local Horb volunteer fire brigade has also signed up for a day of training on a 100-metre crane. An emergency rescue by helicopter from the crane is planned for late summer.

All sides benefit from these height rescue training sessions. The fire brigades are always looking for locations where they can train their members for rescue at height. PORR is happy to support the emergency services, because fast, professional rescue at height is part of occupational safety and can save lives in an emergency.
