PORR right on schedule: End of demolition phase in sight In Oldenburg’s city centre, construction work on the ABRAHAM-Quartier project at Haarenstrasse 11-15 is progressing at full speed. As general contractor, PORR’s Hamburg branch is ensuring that the demolition work on the existing building is proceeding at a brisk pace. The construction of the new building is scheduled to follow soon. Project initiators VIVUM GmbH and ANIMA Projektentwicklungsgesellschaft mbH are planning to complete the urban development by the end of 2022. A total of 121 rental flats are being built on around 5,000 square metres, along with various retail and restaurant units. An anchor tenant, Intersport, has been found for more than 70 per cent of the new commercial units.
The excavator is currently working its way through the reinforced concrete of the old Carl-Wilhelm-Meyer ironmongery on Haarenstrasse/Abraham in Oldenburg. The demolition work, which has been progressing as quickly as possible given the challenging inner-city location, is now gradually drawing to a close. An extensive logistical concept was developed in close cooperation with the city of Oldenburg to ensure maximum safety and minimum waste removal traffic in the pedestrian zone. Manfred Kögler, the responsible senior construction manager at PORR Hamburg, outlines the next steps: “The extensive demolition work will be completed by the end of August, and the civil engineering phase will start immediately afterwards. This will be carried out by our Oldenburg-based subsidiary, Stump-Franki.”
Intersport to become future anchor tenant
“I am confident that this will create a highly attractive new residential, shopping and recreational location in the middle of the historic city centre. Intersport is a high-profile tenant who will make a meaningful addition to the existing retail offering in the city centre. Oldenburg residents have a lot to look forward to in the new development, which will further revitalise the city centre by providing 121 new flats”, says Dr Mark Maurin, managing director of the project company.
