Museum for Regional History and Art, Buxtehude
Buxtehude, Germany / 06.2019 - 08.2019
In the town of Buxtehude, plans were made to renovate and remodel the local “Samel” building, which is part of the Museum fuer Regionalgeschichte und Kunst (Museum for Regional History and Art). These included the construction of several new columns on the museum grounds which, due to the structural properties of the foundation soil, had to be founded on piles. PORR Spezialtiefbau Planung was commissioned to prepare the approval and execution planning for the deep foundation and thus ensure that all work progressed smoothly - from planning to approval through to execution.
Economical and individual solutions
The earlier we are involved in the planning process, the better we can develop practical solutions and present complex details in a format that is easy to understand.

Preparation of approval and implementation planning for micropiles
In view of the extremely confined spatial conditions, micropiles were selected as deep foundation elements. Compact drilling equipment is available for this purpose. However, the geometric boundary conditions made it impossible to create the piles directly below the load points as planned.
We worked with the structural engineer to develop floor-level pile head beams to support the walls and columns, so that the loads could now be safely transferred to the piles, which were positioned off centre.
The dimensions of the micropiles were mathematically verified and the pile lengths and diameters were optimised. Our planning ultimately facilitated the safe and cost-effective implementation of the construction work.
