New commercial buildings, research and production spaces are being developed at the Hansa Business Park in the south of Münster. As more companies set up operations there, the demand for energy infrastructure is also growing. A new 110-kV high-voltage cable route is being constructed to supply the site. On behalf of Stadtnetze Münster, a consortium comprising PORR transport route engineering, Heinz Bente and Gerhard Rode Rohrleitungsbau is carrying out the civil engineering works for the route, which is around six kilometres long.

New power line for the Hansa Business Park in Münster
New grid connection for the Hansa Business Park
As part of the development of the Hansa Business Park and the expansion of further uses at the site, the existing energy infrastructure is being extended. To this end, a new substation is being built with a 110 kV connection to Münster’s electricity grid. The consortium is responsible for constructing the route, which is being carried out predominantly using open-cut construction methods as a travelling construction site. The work is being carried out in stages, comprising around 100 construction sections ranging in length from 50 to 200 metres.
Laying of protective conduits using open and closed construction methods
The route is being constructed predominantly using open-cut methods with shoring boxes. Closed methods are being used to cross railway lines and watercourses. A total of six HDD bores as well as one jacking operation beneath a railway line are planned. Once the empty conduit route has been completed, sleeve pits will be excavated to accommodate the subsequent installation of the power cables. Even before the main works began, the Kappenberger Damm was widened to prepare for construction activities along the route.
Work under constrained conditions
Construction work is being carried out in sections whilst traffic continues to flow. Limited space, existing utility networks, varying ground conditions as well as a high water table are influencing the execution of works along the route. The various construction phases and crossings therefore require ongoing coordination between the trades and specialist contractors involved.
Civil engineering works along a six-kilometre-long route
The project combines traditional pipework and civil engineering with a variety of construction methods in a confined space. In addition to open-cut pipe laying, the project is characterised in particular by the crossing of existing infrastructure, construction carried out in sections, as well as the coordination of numerous stakeholders along the new power line route in the Hansa-BusinessPark Münster.
