Ductile driven piles

Ductile driven piles (HLV piles) are deep foundation elements offering full soil displacement, high load-bearing capacity and general construction approval.

Full-displacement piles with general type approval

Ductile driven piles, also known as HLV piles (high-performance displacement piles), are precast driven piles designed for a variety of foundation applications. They can be used as deep foundation elements for various building and infrastructure projects.

As the soil is completely displaced, no conventional drill cuttings are produced during construction. The selection and dimensioning of the piles is carried out taking into account the respective subsoil conditions, load requirements and project specifications.

The pile system, comprising cast-iron pipes, has been granted a general type approval by the German Institute for Building Technology (DIBt).

HLV piles are used, amongst other things, for the foundations of small and medium-sized structures.

Examples of applications include:

  • Halls
  • Industrial buildings
  • Electricity and mobile phone masts
  • Pipelines

Basics
Ductile driven piles

The design and manufacture of HLV piles comply with Eurocode 7 and DIN EN 12699, as well as the recommendations of the ‘Piles’ Working Group (EA-PfĂ€hle). The diameters of the cast iron pipes are 118 and 170 mm. Further details can be found in our approval Z-34.25-203 HLV pile system Stump, which you can download from our website. The loads and pipe diameters must be adapted to the respective ground conditions. Ductile driven piles: We would be happy to consult with you on this.

Variants
Ductile driven piles

Particularly in non-cohesive soils, annular grouting is required to increase the external bearing capacity. During driving, concrete grout is injected through the pile casing, filling the annular space via a larger-diameter driving shoe. This results not only in soil compaction but also in a strong interlocking bond with the subsoil. Particularly in sandy and gravelly soils, this method can achieve skin friction values of up to 200 kN/mÂČ.

Inclined piles can be manufactured with an inclination of up to 45 degrees, or up to 5 degrees in the case of jacketed piles.

Quality assurance
Ductile driven piles

To ensure quality during construction, the requirements of European and national standards must be observed. The design and manufacture of HLV piles are carried out in accordance with Eurocode 7 as well as DIN EN 12 699, our general type approval from the DIBt, and the recommendations of the ‘Piles’ Working Group (EA-PfĂ€hle). Self-monitoring and documentation of construction work are regulated in the manufacturing standards.

Ductile driven piles require a set of procedures individually coordinated with the specific project requirements.

We ensure high-quality execution through:

  • Individually coordinated procedural instructions
  • Compliance with the requirements of DIN EN 12 699, Eurocode 7 and EA-PfĂ€hle
  • Compliance with the requirements of the general type approval
  • Clear processes via our quality management system in accordance with DIN EN 9001:2015
  • Static or dynamic pile load testing
  • Vibration measurements
