Army Lodge in Baumholder: Shell construction phase ahead of schedule

After the ground-breaking ceremony at the end of 2023 marked the start of the turnkey construction of the new Army Lodge in Baumholder, the project is currently in the shell construction phase. BB Government Services GmbH (BBGS) and PORR Hochbau West GmbH are jointly implementing this major project. BBGS is specialized in the American system and scores with its experience. PORR complements this know-how with its building construction expertise. Work is progressing rapidly and is already ahead of schedule.
The new Baumholder Army Lodge will offer more than 75 rooms. The first military personnel and their families should be able to check into the new, comfortable hotel in October 2026. The turnkey construction of the building, which has a gross floor area of almost 6,000m², is being realized by PORR from a single source: the joint venture between PORR subsidiary BBGS (technical lead) and PORR Building Construction Region West is working in partnership to ensure that the project is implemented on schedule. The Primavera 6 software tool and LEAN Construction are being used to ensure smooth and transparent project coordination. The results are already evident in the shell construction phase, which is ahead of schedule.
Method of soil improvement protects the environment
The contractually required LEED Silver certification is another customer requirement at the top of the priority list for this major project. Soil management also plays a special role in environmental protection here: thanks to an innovative method of soil improvement, in which a mixture of lime and cement is introduced into the soil, the excavated soil material can be reused. An important contribution to greater sustainability. "Thanks to this method, the CO2 balance has been improved. There were fewer truck transports. This is a great benefit, especially for the environment, of course," says Frank Förster, Senior Site Manager at PORR.
Project has enormous relevance for US government agencies
The new Army Lodge is the first major construction project to be awarded under an accelerated procedure as part of a partnership agreement between the US Armed Forces and the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Building (BMWSB). As the project is of enormous relevance to the US government agencies, daily inspections are carried out by the American quality assurance department. In addition, inspections by higher-level authorities take place approximately every 2-4 weeks to check on construction progress.
