Largest building construction project in the district: PORR is building a new vocational training centre in Freising

From May 2026, a new facility will be built in Freising where, in future, around 1,500 young people will learn, develop their potential and shape their professional futures. On behalf of the Freising District Office, PORR Hochbau Süd is undertaking the construction of the new State Vocational Training Centre. The structural work is scheduled for completion in June 2027. As the district’s largest building project to date, the scheme is of particular significance – both in architectural and social terms.

The new building is being constructed on the existing school site on Wippenhauser Straße and will form part of the future school campus. A modern triple-purpose sports hall is being built alongside the new school building. The previously separate buildings will thus merge to form a cohesive campus. A newly planned boulevard will link the buildings, sports facilities and communal areas to create a vibrant educational quarter for socialising, exercise and interaction in a green setting.

The plan is for a compact structure with a basement, comprising a ground floor, three upper storeys and technical enclosures on the roof. Despite its clear structure, the building creates a sense of spaciousness. Spacious functional areas and an integrated sports hall characterise the new campus and provide scope for a wide range of uses.

Building for the next generation

The client’s aim is to create a sustainable educational building offering a high quality of environment that meets both educational and ecological requirements. The project is therefore being implemented in accordance with the criteria of the Quality Seal for Sustainable Buildings (QNG) and is aiming for DGNB certification.

Construction is challenging due to height differences of up to 15 metres, the proximity to ongoing school operations and the restricted access routes. The foundation on bored piles for such a large building is also technically complex, requiring precise planning, coordinated logistics and high safety standards.

Resource-efficient hybrid construction

Constructed using a hybrid frame construction method, the new building combines traditional solid construction techniques with composite concrete, steel and timber-concrete elements, bringing together load-bearing capacity, resource efficiency and optimised construction time.

To manage this complex project, the construction team is relying on LEAN Construction, Building Information Modelling (BIM) and the iTWO billing tool. Several specialist departments are working closely together, including pde Timber, a sister company of PORR, which is contributing its technical expertise in timber-concrete composite slabs.
