PORR awarded another contract for the Hamburg power plant: the building construction division is constructing a building to house the gas pressure regulation and metering system

Hamburg, / Building construction

PORR building construction Nord has been awarded the contract to construct a new building housing a gas pressure regulation and metering plant (GDRMA) on the site of a power plant in the east of Hamburg. The client is Hamburger Energienetze GmbH. Through this project, PORR is contributing to the further development of Hamburg’s energy infrastructure and thereby supporting the efforts of the city’s energy companies to secure the long-term energy supply.

The new GDRMA is being built on a power station site. The new building comprises a solid reinforced concrete structure measuring approximately 23.65 metres in length, 10.65 metres in width and 10.16 metres in height. The foundations consist of reinforced concrete strip footings with pile foundations and a load-bearing reinforced concrete floor slab. The façade will be clad with a composite thermal insulation system and red clinker brick slips, and its design is modelled on the existing buildings on the site.

The contract covers service phases 5 to 8, as well as the detailed design and construction work through to completion. The client attaches particular importance to technically high-quality, well-organised and solution-oriented implementation, whilst adhering to cost and schedule targets. PORR was able to win over the client with its technical expertise and experience in complex infrastructure construction. This marks the second time the company has been involved in the Hamburg power plant project.

The location on the power station site presents particular challenges. Strict safety requirements necessitate detailed organisation of the construction site. As well as the existing crane runway and the rail system on the site, these factors place high demands on the planning and execution of the construction works.

Work is due to commence in September 2026. Completion is scheduled for November 2027. Through this project, PORR building construction Nord is contributing to the modernisation of a facility of significant importance to the energy infrastructure and is thereby supporting the further development of a key site for Hamburg’s energy supply.
