Inner lining of the Murg shaft completed and 365 days without an accident

During the refurbishment of the Rudolf-Fettweis plant in Forbach, the PORR tunnelling team has achieved two milestones: in mid-October, the final section of the inner lining of the Murg shaft was concreted. At the same time, the project team can look back on 365 days of accident-free work.

Workplace safety is of particular importance, especially when it comes to large-scale work both above and below ground.

Block by block, the inner lining of the Murg shaft has taken shape over the past few months. With the concreting of the final section, this work is now complete. This marks the completion of another important step in the construction of the underground structures for the future pumped-storage power station.

The scale of the project is particularly evident underground: the structure system spans a total of around 5,200 metres. Added to this are approximately 510 metres of shaft constructed using the raise-boring method. The underground water reservoirs have a capacity of around 200 million litres. The Murg shaft forms part of this extensive network of tunnels, shafts, caverns and storage structures.

365 days of accident-free work

In parallel with the progress of the construction work, the project team marked another milestone in mid-October: 365 days of accident-free work. To mark the occasion, the management of PORR tunnelling visited the construction site in person and congratulated the team on this achievement.

Workplace safety is of particular importance, especially given the extensive work being carried out both above and below ground. A year of accident-free work is a testament to the daily vigilance and responsible conduct of everyone involved on the construction site.

With the completion of the Murg shaft’s inner lining and 365 days of accident-free work, the project thus combines visible construction progress with an equally important milestone for the entire construction site team.
