Tunnelling is one of the most demanding disciplines in civil engineering and at the same time one of PORR's core competencies. Expertise, innovative strength, flexibility and technical solution competence are required in underground construction. In addition to prioritising the protection of the environment and resources, PORR's top priorities are occupational safety, health protection and quality.
As a reliable partner, we successfully demonstrate our technical expertise in all common tunnelling methods (Gripper TBM, open shield, earth pressure and hydro shield) and also in large cross-sections of 6 to 13 m time and again.
Our range of services includes the construction of transport tunnels such as road, underground and railway tunnels, infrastructure structures for drinking water supply, district heating pipelines, sewers and cable routes, as well as other underground construction such as tunnels, shafts, caverns and hydroelectric power plant construction.
We utilise the following technologies:
- Conventional tunnelling technology (cyclical tunnelling) using the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM)
- Mechanical (continuous) tunnelling with tunnelling machines with diameters from 2.5 to more than 13 m
- Drill tunnelling with hard rock TBMs (gripper machines) with subsequent in-situ concrete inner lining
- Bore tunnelling with shield TBM with simultaneous single-shell segmental lining or double-shell lining with segments and in-situ concrete lining
- Hydro shield tunnelling: tunnelling with fluid-supported face, segmental lining
- Earth pressure shield tunnelling (EPB) with face support via earth pressure, segmental lining
- Multimode tunnelling with alternating operating mode (EPB/liquid-supported/open mode), segment support
- Mechanical tunnelling with pipe jacking technology using the full or partial cut method, with fluid-supported face if required, pipe diameters from 1.5 to more than 4 m
