PORR wins 2021 SOLID Bautec prize

Grand prize for "FAIR particle accelerator" civil engineering project Once every two years, building trade journal SOLID awards the Austria SOLID engineering prize. An elite panel of experts honours building projects in different categories. This year as well, the construction sector gathered on 22 June to pay tribute to the best of the best (virtually due to COVID). PORR took home the 2021 SOLID Bautec grand prize in the International category for the "FAIR particle accelerator" project in Darmstadt, Germany.

The SOLID expert panel, chaired by Prof. W. Reismann, awards biennial grand prizes and recognitions for outstanding construction projects by Austrian firms in the categories:

PORR won in the International category at the construction industry exhibition for its civil engineering on the FAIR particle accelerator in Darmstadt. The gala ceremony presenting the prizes to the winners was held virtually this year.
FAIR: a project of superlatives
In 2018, as part of the Consortium FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) north facility area project, PORR began work on what is currently one of the largest and most complex construction projects in the field of cutting-edge international research: At GSI Helmholtz Centre in Darmstadt, PORR is building a 1.1km long accelerator tunnel including vertical building components, a transfer building with an underground transfer hall to guide the beam into the accelerator ring (SIS100), and the connected main supply building. PDE Integrale Planung GmbH, Stump-Franki Spezialtiefbau GmbH and PORR Ingenieurbau are deploying as many as 550 employees from the planning stage to completion.
