U5 Europaviertel: Excavation for one of Frankfurt's deepest construction pits reaches next phase

/ Structural engineering / Tunneling / News / Press Release

In the U5 Europaviertel project, work on one of the deepest excavation pits in Frankfurt am Main is entering the next phase: excavation has started under the first layer of stiffeners for the future underground station of the U5 light rail line in Frankfurt at Güterplatz.

Excavation for one of the deepest excavation pits in Frankfurt reaches the next phase.

After the installation of the first bracing level, the excavation work below the bracing is now carried out. For this task, the so-called tele-deep excavator is used. First, soil between approx. 3 metres and 6 metres of the 170-metre-long and approx. 25-30-metre-deep excavation pit will be excavated in the different areas. The excavation pit will reach a depth of 24 meters. The work will be intensively accompanied by several measuring devices. Around 170,000 tonnes of earth material will be transported in this inner-city infrastructure project with its logistical challenges.

We wish all those involved every success with this task!
