Economical foundation solution with Frankipile NG® piles for employee car park at Flugfeldklinikum

/ Special civil engineering / News / Press Release

The district of Böblingen is building a new hospital on a former airfield between Böblingen and Sindelfingen by 2026. For the pile foundation of the staff car park west, PORR special civil engineering, Stuttgart branch, produced 125 Frankipile NG® piles on behalf of Stuttgart-based Goldbeck Süd GmbH. The colleagues from PORR's special civil engineering planning department provided support with the structural design and execution planning.

The Klinikverbund Südwest is building the new Flugfeldklinikum for medical care in the district of Böblingen on around 50,000 square metres of land. Most of the shells are already in place. A total of 1,300 parking spaces, spread over a multi-storey car park on the west and east sides of the south building, will be available to visitors as well as employees.

Lean driven piles: Lower costs, more sustainability

PORR Spezialtiefbau produced 40 Frankipile NG® piles with a diameter of 51 cm and 85 Frankipile NG® piles with a diameter of 61 cm for the foundations of the multi-storey car park. Thanks to the small pile diameters, the use of Frankipiles contributes to the cost-effectiveness of the overall project. Full soil displacement means lower transport and disposal costs. In addition, concrete is saved, which reduces the CO2 footprint. The driven piles were pre-drilled in this risk area in order to avoid heave in the portal area of an exit and potential damage to the exposed concrete shell during the foundation work.

For the Böblingen construction project, it was particularly important to the client that decades of experience in the planning and execution of Franki piles could be demonstrated in the field of specialised civil engineering. A home game for PORR special civil engineering. "With us, the client had the security of optimal planning and a high quality of execution. In addition to the usual partnership-based cooperation, this was, as so often, the basis for the project's success," says Jürgen Christ, PORR Special Civil Engineering Division Manager Foundation Engineering South.
