Second half of the "Hagenschieß" green bridge under construction

/ Structural engineering / News / Press Release

Construction work on the Enz Valley crossing of the A8 motorway continues during the cold season. In the meantime, traffic on an already completed carriageway section coming from Stuttgart is being routed under the first half-arch of the new green bridge near Niefern. This means that PORR's structural engineering department has a "clear path" and is working at full speed on the construction of the second bridge section on the Karlsruhe carriageway.

As the six-lane expansion of the A8 motorway between Pforzheim-Nord and Pforzheim-Süd is taking place in parallel, it is the main construction project that sets the pace. And so, once the first bridge arch was safely resting on its 12-metre-high shoring, the bridge construction work could be continued after a planned break of several months. Each half-arch is being constructed in six concreting sections. For the final concreting of the 1.5 m wide gap closure, hydraulic presses will raise the two bridge sections by 2 to 6 cm. Construction of the green bridge is scheduled for completion in mid-2025.

The construction site is located in the northern Black Forest in a wildlife corridor of international importance. Enabling endangered wildlife species to move freely within their natural habitats is essential for their conservation. The 64 m long and 53 m wide integral arch bridge will allow them to cross the A8 motorway safely in future. Once completed, it will also provide a safe habitat for numerous regional animal and plant species.
