The A45 motorway, also known as the ‘Sauerland Line’, is an important trunk road in the western part of Germany, between the Ruhr area and the Rhine-Main area. The constant high volume of traffic leaves its marks, and the need for renovation is high.

Thorough renovation within 280 days

The team of the Münster/Dortmund road construction branch was commissioned to fundamentally restore the section between the Drolshagen and Meinerzhagen motorway junctions in the direction of Dortmund. A total of approximately 110,000m² were repaired in eight construction phases. With changing traffic routing, the three lanes and the hard shoulder were thoroughly renovated in the area of the junction over seven kilometres. The on- and off-ramp also received a new road top.

34 centimetres of the road surface, the binder layer and the base layer were removed and reinstalled.

To ensure smooth and timely execution, the work was carried out in individual time slots in multi-shift operation. Traffic safety, protection systems and markings were each assigned to separate specialist lots.

Construction output in figures:

  • 134,000m2 of asphalt
  • 24,780m3 milled off
  • 11,150m3 dismantling of concrete

What ultimately counts in the construction business is successfully completed projects. PORR has many of these.
