Infrastructure for electric articulated buses
The modernisation forms part of the planned transition of the entire BSAG bus fleet from diesel to electric vehicles by 2033. Fifty electric articulated buses are set to enter service as early as 2025. The Blumenthal site offers suitable conditions for this, as there is sufficient space available and no obstructive overhead lines or tracks.
New infrastructure for electric mobility
The existing infrastructure is being comprehensively adapted for the future operation of the electric buses. This includes the installation of charging points, the laying of power cables as well as the conversion of the workshop to electric technology. In addition, new fire detection systems, two workstations and a room for battery storage are being built. The digitalisation and automation of the power supply and vehicle logistics are also part of the modernisation.
Civil engineering works to a depth of 5.50 metres
PORR transport route engineering is undertaking extensive civil engineering works as part of the refurbishment. A total of 870 metres of new sewers are being constructed at depths of up to 5.50 metres, including a rainwater treatment plant. To ensure the work is carried out safely, shoring is being used in the majority of the construction sections. In addition, the team is laying around 7,000 metres of empty conduits and is moving as well as disposing of approximately 6,000 cubic metres of soil for construction pits as well as for the sub-base.
15,000 square metres of new concrete surface
The traffic areas of the depot are also being renewed. Across an area of 15,000 square metres, the existing concrete surface, including the hydraulically bound base course, will be removed. The team will then lay a new gravel base course as well as a frost-resistant sub-base, followed by a new concrete surface, covering 15,000 square metres. In addition, around 1,500 metres of kerbing will be installed.
A building block for electric bus transport in Bremen
The work is scheduled for completion in spring 2025. With the modernised depot in Bremen-Nord, BSAG is creating the necessary infrastructure to charge, maintain and deploy electric articulated buses in daily operations, thereby supporting the planned transition of its bus fleet by 2033.
