The A44 motorway connects the Ruhr region with East Westphalia and other regions in North Rhine-Westphalia. Service areas and motorway facilities are regularly being built or expanded along the route to meet the demands of road traffic. The PORR Osnabrück/Gütersloh branch was commissioned by the North Rhine-Westphalia State Road Construction Authority to construct the new Hellweg Nord service area.

Construction of the new Hellweg Nord service area on the A44
As part of the project, a new service area with parking spaces for stationary traffic was built. Upon completion, 114 lorry parking spaces, 45 car parking spaces as well as seven bus parking spaces will be available. The works were carried out over a runtime of around one year.
Access roads and traffic areas
The scope of works included earthworks, sewerage works and road construction, as well as the installation of the drainage infrastructure. In addition, unbound layers were laid, paved areas were constructed and kerbs were installed using the in-situ concrete slip-form method. Both concrete and asphalt construction methods were used for the carriageway surfaces.
Infrastructure for stationary traffic
The Hellweg Nord service area represents a new section of transport infrastructure along the A44. The project combines roadworks, sewerage works and earthworks with the construction of parking and traffic areas for various road users, and complements the existing infrastructure along the motorway.
