Building Construction and Structural Engineering in a Single Project

In addition to traditional reinforced concrete structures, the shells also included steel and composite structures. To implement these, the building construction and structural engineering teams collaborated within the project, contributing their respective expertise to the various construction phases.

A distinctive feature was located in the southern part of the building: there, a bridge structure was integrated into the building shell to support a swimming pool. The structure thus combines elements of building construction with tasks typical of structural engineering.

Construction in the Überseequartier

The location within the large-scale construction project in HafenCity also shaped the site logistics. Narrow access routes, the repositioning of cranes within the complex and the parallel work of numerous contractors involved all had to be taken into account when organising the construction processes.

Part of the new Überseequartier

The two hotel buildings form part of the Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier in the southern section of HafenCity. The quarter brings together a variety of uses – including residential, commercial, hotel, catering, retail and leisure facilities – in a single location. The shells carried out by PORR provide the structural foundation for two of the hotel facilities within the overall project.
