PORR develops forward-looking location in Berlin-Dahlem
Within the consortium, PORR Verkehrswegebau is responsible for road and path construction, the installation of telecommunications systems, and gardening and landscaping work. Tepe takes on the task of laying sewage and drinking water pipes and installing outdoor lighting systems. The future innovation center will be powered exclusively by green electricity from the FUBIC electricity-only plant. The buildings are supplied via WISTA's own medium-voltage ring with a connected load of 10 MVA. Responsibility for the construction of the medium-voltage system was shared by the ARGE partners.
Open communication and transparent working methods guarantee completion date
Since spring 2023, the conversion and expansion of a former US military hospital into the FUBIC innovation center in the heart of the campus area has been in full swing. Gradually, up to six new office and laboratory buildings are being constructed around it. “The biggest challenge is to ensure a smooth process between building construction, civil engineering, and road construction and to find quick and uncomplicated solutions in the event of scheduling conflicts,” explains senior site manager Michael Werk. Nature conservation are also not neglected in this project. The tree population is largely preserved in order to create valuable green spaces and open areas on the grounds of the innovation park. During the construction period, a 100-year-old oak tree and a bat cellar on the construction site have to be protected in particular.
Infrastructure for an important innovation location in Berlin
The Dahlem district in southwest Berlin is one of Germany's most important scientific locations. In addition to the Free University of Berlin (FU Berlin), which currently has 35,000 students, numerous research institutes have settled in the “German Oxford” over the past 100 years. FU Berlin is one of the leaders in Germany in terms of the number of university spin-offs. Up to 80 scientific start-ups will find an inspiring place to work with numerous opportunities for networking and collaboration in the new FUBIC (Business and Innovation Center next to Freie Universität Berlin Campus) innovation and start-up center.
