Neue Straße in Owen, Baden-Württemberg, was upgraded as part of a comprehensive infrastructure project. In addition to the resurfacing of the carriageways, the project also focused on work on the existing utility and waste disposal networks. The PORR transport route engineering branch in Kirchheim unter Teck was commissioned to carry out the work. The project was commissioned by the town of Owen as well as the relevant utility operators.

Upgrading of Neue Straße in Owen
Road construction and utility works on a shared route
During the first phase of construction, the Neue Straße between Beurener Straße and Wasenweg was constructed to full specification over a length of around 500 metres. The new road was given a carriageway width of 5.5 metres as well as a pavement on one side. In parallel with the road construction, existing supply and drainage pipes were adapted and re-laid. This included several hundred metres of water and gas pipes, power cables as well as empty conduits for the technical infrastructure.
Renewal of the supply and drainage infrastructure
Another component of the project was the construction of a new stormwater drain to separate rainwater from wastewater. As well as this, an existing combined sewer, including the associated manholes, was refurbished. Furthermore, the project encompassed the renewal of the street lighting as well as work on the adjacent green spaces.
Work on existing infrastructure
During the construction period, the existing utility networks had to be replaced in stages. Temporary pipework was installed to maintain supplies to local residents. The installation of new property connections, as well as the adaptation of courtyard access roads and private connection areas, was also carried out in stages as part of the construction work.
Infrastructure for the further development of the street space
The project in Owen combines road construction, sewerage works as well as utility network works within a single development project. In addition to the construction of the new traffic areas, the work focused in particular on the reorganisation of the underground infrastructure and the coordination of numerous supply and disposal pipelines along the route.
