Parking Lot for a Logistics Facility

Bielefeld, Germany / 11.2025 - 06.2026

In Bielefeld-Sieker, PORR completely renovated an existing parking lot for a logistics facility, bringing its total area to approximately 7,000 m². The area, which was in need of renovation, had previously hindered ongoing operations and was converted into a new traffic area for delivery vehicles. The scope of work included the construction of new asphalt surfaces as well as the installation of an underground stormwater treatment plant.

The subsoil poses special challenges

Challenging subsoil conditions became apparent right from the start of construction. Near-surface groundwater, as well as loamy and silty soil layers, required additional measures during construction. In addition, backfilled basement structures and an exposed tank had to be taken into account in further construction planning.

Weather conditions also affected the construction schedule. Snow and persistent rainfall occasionally hampered work and necessitated ongoing adjustments to on-site procedures. Construction was adapted accordingly to the prevailing on-site conditions.

Material Analysis as the Basis for Construction

Various divisions within PORR collaborated on the project. The PORR Central Laboratory in Münster played a key role: There, the existing materials were analyzed, and a tailored installation concept was developed based on the determined soil conditions. The test results were directly incorporated into the subsequent execution.

UF3 gravel was used to stabilize the subsoil. Due to the groundwater conditions, special requirements had to be considered when selecting materials. For this reason, recycled materials were not used during construction.

Tailored to On-Site Conditions

The investigations of the subsoil and existing materials made it possible to adapt the planned measures to the actual conditions at the construction site. Planning, material analysis, and construction were closely integrated throughout the process. As a result, the work was completed on schedule despite challenging soil conditions, high groundwater levels, and weather-related constraints.

Reliable Space for Delivery Traffic

With the completion of the construction project, the logistics facility in Bielefeld-Sieker now has a renovated traffic area for delivery vehicles. The area, which previously required renovation and was hindering operations, is once again suited for its intended use.

What ultimately counts in the construction business is successfully completed projects. PORR has many of these.
