With the construction of the new Wilhelmsburg care facility, HSI Hamburger Senioren Immobilien GmbH has taken a forward-looking step toward modern care services in Hamburg. As part of the “Initiative Zukunftspflege” (Future Care Initiative), two new, functionally connected buildings were constructed on the site on Hermann-Westphal-Straße, replacing five aging individual buildings. As the general contractor, PORR Hochbau Region Nord was responsible for the realization of the entire project – reliably, on schedule, and from a single source.

Surrounded by water and meadows: a care facility in the heart of Hamburg
With a total gross floor area of around 19,795 m², the new facility offers 312 comfortable care rooms, including 35 wheelchair-accessible rooms and 25 specially designed for people in a persistent vegetative state. This clear structure not only creates optimal care conditions, but also enables the operator to achieve efficient processes and short distances. Thanks to its location surrounded by water and green spaces, an environment has been created that offers residents a high quality of life. Integral planning by PORR's sister company pde, as well as excavation and pile foundation work by PORR Spezialtiefbau GmbH, ensured smooth project phases and precise interface coordination.
Building during ongoing operations: Safety and protection as top priority
A key requirement of the client was to maintain the ongoing operation of the nursing and dementia center without restriction throughout the entire construction period. To meet this requirement, the PORR team developed a customized logistics concept that guaranteed free and safe access at all times, reliably protected sensitive areas from dust and noise, and thus provided the best possible relief for both residents and employees.
Reliability as a success factor
In addition to the economically attractive calculation, PORR's reliability was a decisive factor for the client. The commitment to consistently deliver on promises created trust and ensured implementation within budget and on schedule. Thanks to the comprehensive range of services—from general and implementation planning to special civil engineering and shell construction—the project benefited from seamless processes and highly professional management of all trades.
Modern care infrastructure in Hamburg
The modern new buildings replaced the previously scattered care buildings from the 1960s, which caused long distances and inefficient processes and no longer met today's energy standards. The new care facility now combines all wards and functional areas under one roof and expands the range of services in Hamburg with modern, energy-efficient, and specialized care places.
