With the construction of the new Wilhelmsburg care facility, HSI Hamburger Senioren Immobilien GmbH has taken a forward-looking step toward modern care services in Hamburg. As part of the “Initiative Zukunftspflege,” two new, functionally interconnected buildings were constructed on the site on Hermann-Westphal-Straße, replacing five aging standalone structures. As the general contractor, PORR Hochbau Region Nord implemented the entire project from a single source—reliably, on schedule, and with clear lines of responsibility. Integrated planning by PORR sister company pde, along with excavation and pile foundation work by PORR Spezialtiefbau, ensured smooth processes, short decision-making paths, and precise coordination of all interfaces.

Modern healthcare infrastructure in Hamburg
With a total floor area of approximately 19,795 m², the new facility offers 312 comfortable care rooms, including 35 wheelchair-accessible rooms and 25 rooms specifically designed for people in a persistent vegetative state. The new care facility brings all wards and functional areas together under one roof. A clear layout not only creates optimal care conditions but also enables the operator to maintain efficient workflows and short distances. Thanks to its location surrounded by water and green spaces, an environment has been created that offers residents a high quality of life. The new building expands Hamburg’s care offerings with modern, energy-efficient, and specialized care beds.
Construction During Ongoing Operations: Safety and Protection as the Top Priority
A key requirement of the client was to maintain the ongoing operations of the care and dementia center without restriction throughout the entire construction period. To meet this need, the PORR team developed a customized logistics concept that guaranteed clear and safe access routes at all times, reliably protected sensitive areas from dust and noise, and thus provided the best possible relief for both residents and staff.
