Siemens Healthineers’ production and research site in Forchheim

Research and production under one roof

The HEP Centre brings together various areas, ranging from research and development to production. Its use for the manufacture of medical technology components placed particular structural dynamic demands on the building and its construction. The production areas were designed to accommodate automated systems and digitally networked production processes.

Planning and construction using BIM and LEAN

LEAN management methods were employed for project management. pde Integrale Planung took charge of BIM coordination and also oversaw the building certification to LEED Silver standard. Digital methods also supported the construction process. These included drone surveys as well as the integration of 3D models with 2D design details and simulations. The resulting digital project data is also available for the building’s future management.

Building concept and energy supply

The building was constructed in accordance with project-specific standards and environmental criteria set by Siemens Healthineers. The planning also included a specially developed energy concept for the building complex.

A single site for medical technology, from development to production

The HEP Centre brought together research, development and production of medical technology components under one roof. The differing requirements of the laboratory, development and production areas shaped both the planning and the construction process. As the turnkey contractor, PORR supported the project from the planning stage right through to the completion of the building complex.
