Living between the campus, the city centre and the neighbourhood
Living in the Stresemannquartier
With 777 furnished micro-flats, THE FIZZ forms a self-contained unit within the Stresemannquartier. The flats each have their own bathroom as well as a kitchenette, and range from compact units to larger living spaces.
In addition, communal areas have been created, including study rooms, communal kitchens, a gym, a cinema room as well as a roof terrace. Around 140 car parking spaces and approximately 500 bicycle parking spaces have been provided in the basement. Furthermore, a supermarket, a chemist’s and a restaurant have moved into the ground floor.
Integrated into the Altona neighbourhood
The building was constructed in a location situated between the city centre, university campuses and the neighbourhoods of Altona. The façade design is modelled on the existing built environment and incorporates design elements from the surrounding area, as well as its three-part structure and folded roof section.
Planning and execution by PORR
Several PORR companies were involved in the project. pde Integrale Planung GmbH was responsible for the planning, whilst H+E Haustechnik und Elektro GmbH planned the technical building services. The construction work was carried out by PORR’s building construction Nord division.
Building within an inner-city context
The construction site was situated between the busy main roads Stresemannstraße and Kieler Straße. At the same time, only a limited area was available for site facilities and deliveries. For the construction work, the schedule, site logistics and material deliveries were adapted to the spatial constraints of the location. Step by step, a building complex comprising residential, retail and service facilities took shape.
A foundation for student and temporary accommodation
THE FIZZ, a residential building in the Stresemannquartier, was created to cater for students, apprentices as well as young professionals. The project created the spatial conditions for temporary accommodation in the immediate vicinity of universities, workplaces and Hamburg city centre. In addition to the flats, communal areas as well as complementary facilities were created on the ground floor, integrating the building complex into the quarter.
