PORR Spezialtiefbau was contracted to complete the specialist civil engineering works on a complex construction pit for a new residential development in Frankfurt’s Rödelheim district. Our services included the construction of an overlapping bored pile wall and the fabrication of sheet pile walls with various profiles and bracing in two construction stages. PORR Spezialtiefbau Planung GmbH was responsible for planning the implementation of this project.
Urban living with a connection to nature
The VIDO residential development in Rödelheim is located to the west of Frankfurt city, and features plenty of green spaces and close proximity to the Taunus mountain range. The development comprises 166 top-quality furnished freehold apartments with a total living area of 13,300m2 in 12 buildings. Each building contains an underground parking garage, and virtually all the apartments are equipped with either a terrace, balcony or loggia.
Safe implementation of the complete specialist civil engineering service
The first construction stage took place on a site measuring approximately 110 x 45m, while the second construction stage occupied an area of 53 x 68m.

Manufacture of a bored pile wall and sheet-pile walls
To secure the construction pit, a water barrier comprising 6,300m2 of steel sheet-pile walls was anchored by girth rigging with temporary wire anchors. Owing to the varying static sections of the project, several different sheet-pile wall profiles were used. This resulted in a significant economic advantage for the client. Half of the excavation pit was enclosed with overlapping bored pile walls and braced with steel stanchions against abutment piles to protect neighbouring buildings.
Execution just in time
Our specialist civil engineering team was able to bring all their expertise to bear to ensure the economical and timely completion of the construction pit. Optimizing the shoring line reduced both the area of the sheet pile walls and the construction time. As the different construction pits had to be manufactured independently, the client relied heavily on our consistently reliable execution scheduling.
