“Neue Kohlgärten” residential complex

PORR builds “Neue Kohlgärten” residential complex in Leipzig's Reudnitz district

The former “Kohlengärten” (coal gardens) border Leipzig's city center to the east. Due to its proximity to the center, the district is now particularly popular as a place to live among many students and young professionals. Thanks to cozy cafés, restaurants, and atmospheric beer gardens, the district is developing into Leipzig's new trendy neighborhood.

To further meet the demand for housing, PORR Hochbau Region Ost is building a new residential complex at Kohlgartenstraße 63 and Bergstraße 2a and 2b. A building comprising 28 two- to four-room apartments and 84 apartments for rent is being constructed on a 2,830 m² plot. The building itself will have a living space of 5,752 m². The project aims to create modern and versatile rental apartments in a central district of Leipzig.

The architecture of the “Neue Kohlgärten” is based on the historic architectural style of the Wilhelminian era, which once characterized the district. Elements such as balconies, bay windows, and color schemes have been adapted to modern living requirements. The residential buildings at Bergstraße 2A and 2B offer spacious living areas and blend harmoniously into the overall appearance of the district. An adjacent apartment building on Kohlgartenstraße meets the growing demand for smaller apartments.

Continuing a successful partnership

The “Neue Kohlgärten” is not the first project that PORR has implemented for the client PROPOS Projektentwicklung GmbH. The PORR team is also realizing the Cospuden residential quarter near Leipzig and has impressed during the construction phase with its rapid construction progress, high quality, and cooperative partnership with the client – which is now being continued with the “Neue Kohlgärten” project.
