New residential development on the monastery site
The building project is being developed on Körnerstraße, on part of the former monastery grounds not far from Münster city centre. The religious order moved into its new provincial house on the site back in 2020. The apartment block will now add a further use to the site.
The five-storey building, with a gross floor area of around 9,925 m², comprises 57 flats as well as an underground car park. Each flat has a balcony or terrace, whilst the top-floor flats are designed as maisonettes.
Architecture within the existing residential environment
The new building is situated directly adjacent to an existing residential area and echoes its architectural structure. The building, approximately 82 metres long, is architecturally divided into six units. Clinker bricks in various shades are used for the façades. A variety of roof tile colours complement the design and define the building’s profile along Körnerstraße.
Building in the immediate vicinity of existing structures
A particular challenge is the creation of a watertight construction pit in the immediate vicinity of the existing neighbouring buildings. The construction work and the necessary specialist civil engineering works will be tailored to the local conditions. Additional companies from the PORR Group will be involved for specific tasks within the project, including construction logistics and quality control.
Further development of the monastery site
With the construction of this block of flats, another part of the former monastery site is being put to a new architectural use. Following the construction of the new provincial house, the site will now be expanded to include 57 flats as well as the associated outdoor and parking areas. The project thus forms a further building block in the phased development of the site in the Pluggendorf district of Münster.
