Turnkey construction of three low-rise blocks in the new urban district

From barracks site to a new urban quarter

The Alanbrooke Quarter is being developed on the site of a former barracks, covering an area of around 18 hectares. Eleven listed buildings and the former parade ground form part of the site’s existing structure. In addition to a variety of housing types, the development also includes space for offices and services, a nursery, as well as areas dedicated to art and culture.

Three residential blocks on a shared underground car park

The three tower blocks comprise a total of 36 owner-occupied flats and are connected via a shared underground car park. PORR’s scope of work included turnkey construction, including the electrical installations.

Lean Construction and individual fit-out requests

During the construction phase, the future flat owners’ individual fit-out requests were integrated into the ongoing construction processes. At the same time, the project team structured the individual construction phases using the Last Planner System. Coordination between PORR, the client and the contractors involved thus supported both the construction of the three residential buildings and the implementation of the flat-specific adaptations.

Housing as part of quarter development

The three residential buildings complement the diverse uses within the Alanbrooke quarter. Their completion means that a further section of the former barracks site is permanently converted to residential use. At the same time, the listed existing buildings and the historic structures of the site remain part of the new urban quarter.
