In the Reudnitz district of Leipzig, PORR building construction Region Ost is developing the âAntons Inselâ residential estate at the SchmĂślln site. On behalf of PROPOS Projektentwicklung, two residential blocks are being built on KippenbergstraĂe, comprising a total of 102 residential units and around 6,395 m² of living space.

Tradition meets modernity: the âAntons Inselâ residential development in Leipzig
A name with links to the neighbourhoodâs history
For many years, Reudnitz was a hub for Leipzigâs publishing and printing industry. Among the companies that shaped this part of the city was Insel Verlag, under the leadership of Anton Kippenberg. The name âAntons Inselâ draws on this history. The project is being developed on a plot of land measuring approximately 6,052 m². The design takes its cue from the Wilhelminian-style apartment blocks along KippenbergstraĂe and continues the existing perimeter block development.
Two residential buildings on a single site
The apartment block facing the street comprises five full storeys and a stepped storey, housing 49 one- to four-room flats. Behind it, a four-storey apartment block with a penthouse level is being built, comprising 53 one- to three-room flats. Access is via a glass-enclosed pergola.
Both buildings face a landscaped inner courtyard. The flats feature balconies or terraces. In addition, an underground car park with 38 car spaces and 240 bicycle spaces is being constructed.
Construction method and building standard
The two new buildings are being constructed using solid construction methods and built to the Efficiency House 55 standard. The architecture, with its building structure, references the existing development along KippenbergstraĂe. Lean Construction is being used to manage and coordinate the construction processes.
Continued collaboration in Leipzig
Following the âQuarter Cospudenâ and âNeue Kohlgärtenâ projects, âAntons Inselâ is the third construction project that PORR is carrying out for PROPOS in Leipzig. This marks the continuation of the collaboration between the two companies on yet another residential construction project.
New residential development in Leipzig-Reudnitz
âAntons Inselâ will see the creation of 102 flats in two different building types, as well as the associated outdoor and parking areas. The development facing the street continues the existing block perimeter structure, whilst the rear apartment block and the landscaped inner courtyard complement the development of the site. This creates the structural foundation for a new residential development on KippenbergstraĂe.
