Stuttgart
B 297, between Neckartenzlingen und Reutlingen-Mittelstadt

Stuttgart, Germany / 11.2023 - 11.2023

The necessary road surface renovation of the B 297 between Neckartenzlingen and Reutlingen-Mittelstadt was carried out by A. WAGGERSHAUSER STRASSENBAU GmbH + Co. KG, a subsidiary company of PORR. The road surface was renewed on schedule, with high-quality workmanship and with asphalt produced in a process that is almost 100 per cent CO2-neutral. The 800 metres of cycle path running parallel to the road were also rehabilitated. In addition, around 520 metres of guard rail were installed along the carriageway.

‘Green asphalt’ for new road surface on the B 297

The B 297 had severe deformations and cracks between the junction with the L 374 near Reutlingen-Mittelstadt and Neckartenzlingen, which is why a road surface renovation had become necessary. Within just nine days, the transport route engineering team was contracted by the Stuttgart Regional Council to lay fresh binder courses as well as seamless asphalt surface courses in widths of up to 12 metres over a distance of around 2.3 kilometres. 4,700 tonnes of asphalt were milled off and, after being processed into asphalt granulate, most of it was reused in the new road surface.

Waggershauser delivers almost CO2-neutrally produced recycled asphalt

Waggershauser has been part of PORR Germany since January 2024 and is one of the pioneers in the field of maximum recycling in Baden-Württemberg. The benefits in terms of environmental friendliness, sustainability and cost-effectiveness are clear: asphalt recycling reduces the energy and raw material costs of production and avoids the landfilling of large quantities of demolition material. Waggershauser is taking a step further in the direction of recycling management and climate neutrality in its asphalt plant. An advanced concept for the dry storage of aggregates and asphalt granulate, as well as the use of renewable energies in the furnace, enable almost CO2-neutral asphalt production.

What ultimately counts in the construction business is successfully completed projects. PORR has many of these.
