Groß Kölzig, Germany / 2022

Federal Roads 115 link the south of Brandenburg with the neighbouring regions in Saxony and are a key transport link for regional traffic. In the Groß Kölzig area, damage to the existing asphalt surface made it necessary to resurface and reinforce the carriageway. On behalf of the Brandenburg State Roads Authority, the PORR Berlin branch carried out the work as part of a joint venture. The construction project also formed part of a test section for low-temperature Rolled asphalt.

Road resurfacing on the B115 near Groß Kölzig

Rehabilitation of a road section in Brandenburg

Between July and September 2022, the section of road between the Groß Kölzig junction and the Jocksdorf junction was renewed. As part of the works, existing road surface damage was repaired and the asphalt structure was upgraded. The project involved the resurfacing of a section of the B115 and was carried out whilst traffic continued to flow.

Test section for low-temperature Rolled asphalt

For the asphalt paving, low-temperature asphalt was used in both conventional and compacted laying methods, utilising the InLine-Pave process. Asphalt mixes with reduced paving temperatures were used for this purpose.

This section of the B115 served as a test section for low-temperature Rolled asphalt. The InLine-Pave process enables the paving of the binder course and surface course in a coordinated construction sequence and was applied as part of the project under conditions on federal roads.

Accompanying tests during construction

The construction works were accompanied by various testing and monitoring procedures. These included aerosol measurements, thermal scans, Troxler measurements as well as comprehensive dynamic compaction monitoring. The results were used to monitor and document the construction work during the individual construction phases.

Road construction under real-world conditions

The construction project on the B115 combines traditional road resurfacing with the application of specialised asphalt construction methods. In addition to the rehabilitation of an existing section of road, the focus was also on the requirements for the construction process, testing and documentation within the framework of a test section.

What ultimately counts in the construction business is successfully completed projects. PORR has many of these.
