On behalf of Lampe Immobilien GmbH & Co. KG, PORR building construction West carried out the construction of the new building and the rehabilitation of the Lampe banking house’s headquarters in Bielefeld city centre. At the heart of the project was a new office building, which was integrated with the listed façades and historic parts of the existing building. The new building and the existing structure were thus merged into a single building complex.

New building and restoration of historical monument
New build behind historic façades
The five-storey new build was constructed behind the listed existing façade, which was temporarily secured during the building works. The historic gables were integrated into the new reinforced concrete structure and permanently connected to the new building. The building has a gross floor area of 6,400 m² and a gross volume of 23,000 m³.
Work between the new building and the existing structure
The scope of work included earthworks, masonry work, as well as concrete and reinforced concrete work. This was supplemented by conversion and refurbishment work on the existing building. During construction, the listed building elements and their integration into the new building structure had to be taken into account.
Traces from the 13th century
Archaeological investigations were carried out as part of the earthworks and integrated into the construction process. These revealed historical finds dating from the 13th century. In some areas, there were also indications of potentially older traces of settlement.
Historic room behind the Lampe gables
Behind the historic Lampe gables lies a historic room containing original furnishings from the company’s history. These include, amongst other things, furniture, light fittings and doors, as well as other interior fittings. This meant that, in addition to the listed external structural elements, elements of the historic interior décor were also preserved.
Construction site logistics in the city centre
The location in Bielefeld city centre imposed specific spatial constraints on the construction work. Access to the site was via adjacent residential streets and pedestrian areas. Material transport and construction site logistics were adapted to these conditions.
Historic headquarters with new office use
At the headquarters of Bankhaus Lampe, the office building combines historic existing elements with newly created office spaces. The listed façades and gables are preserved as defining features of the building.
