Construction pits for residential and commercial building

Leipzig, Germany / 11.2023 - 08.2024

The project developer QUARTERBACK Immobilien AG, which operates throughout Germany, is realising a multi-storey residential and commercial building with an underground car park on the approximately 10,500 m² site of the former post office in the centre of Pinneberg. In a joint venture with Eggers Tiefbau GmbH, PORR Special Civil Engineering Region North is constructing a watertight construction pit with pile foundations for its long-standing customer.

The image shows a large rectangular construction pit surrounded by a construction site fence. Numerous pile heads are exposed at the bottom of the construction pit. Construction equipment and materials can be seen in some places above the piles. In the background are several multi-storey buildings. On the left is a row of green construction containers. A yellow-and-blue flag with the inscription ‘PORR’ is attached to the fence.

Waterproof construction pits for sustainable construction project in Pinneberg

Precise planning to avoid collisions with existing piles

The construction pit, with an area of 6,500 m² and a depth of around 4 metres, is secured by 6,100 m² of cut-off walls with integrated prefabricated parts, as well as 181 temporary, partially removable anchors. For the deep foundations, the team from the PORR branch in Seevetal is producing 600 partial displacement bored piles, each 15 metres long. In addition, a residual water drainage system has been set up due to the high groundwater level.

As the previous building also had pile foundations, the old piles were measured to avoid collisions with the new piles and to ensure sufficient distances. The CFA piles used offer numerous benefits: they enable low-noise and vibration-free construction and reduce the costs of transport and disposal of the drilling material.

Team leader Sebastian Grote on the collaboration: ‘We are very pleased that we were able to impress the client with high-quality execution and a cost-effective overall solution from a single source in this project as well. Good experiences from previous projects are always an advantage, but of course we have to deliver something new every time.’

New building meets ESG standards

On a floor space of around 15,000 m², 165 apartments with one to five rooms, a daycare centre, as well as eight commercial units are being built at Friedrich-Ebert-Straße. The building complex consists of two connected structures with up to five full storeys and a penthouse floor. The façade facing the Pinnau will be terraced, while green spaces and newly planted trees will offer residents a quiet retreat.

QUARTERBACK is aiming for both DGNB certification and the Quality Seal for Sustainable Building (QNG) for the residential and commercial district. Measures such as green roofs and a solar energy system ensure that the efficiency house 40 NH class is met. In addition, the use of sustainable materials significantly reduces CO₂ emissions.

We were able to convince the customer by offering a one-stop solution and timely completion of the construction pit.

What ultimately counts in the construction business is successfully completed projects. PORR has many of these.
