A12, zwischen Berlin und Frankfurt/Oder, Germany / 04.2013 - 09.2018
The A12 motorway links the Berlin Ring with Frankfurt (Oder) and is also part of the E30 European route. The route is therefore a key transport link between Germany and Poland, as well as other regions of Central and Eastern Europe. In order to adapt the existing infrastructure to meet traffic demands, the A12 is being upgraded in stages. PORR, as part of a joint venture, has taken on several construction sections between the Spreeau motorway junction and Fürstenwalde.

Upgrading of the A12 between Spreeau and Fürstenwalde
In April 2013, work began on the first construction phase between the Spreeau motorway junction and the Storkow junction, covering a distance of around 6 km. To ensure that traffic flow could be maintained during the construction period, the carriageway heading towards Berlin was temporarily widened. This was followed by a complete overhaul of the existing carriageways.
As part of the project, the existing carriageways were removed and replaced with new concrete carriageways. The section was upgraded to the standard cross-section RQ 29.5, comprising two lanes in each direction and a hard shoulder.
Continuation of works towards Fürstenwalde
The first construction phase was followed by a further section of works between the Friedersdorf and Fürstenwalde West junctions. Here too, the works involved the renewal of the carriageways over a length of around 6 km. As well as this, two bridge structures were renewed and the Friedersdorf and Storkow junctions were rebuilt.
Construction carried out in time-limited phases
The works could only be carried out within a specified construction period between April and September. This was intended to minimise the impact of weather conditions on construction and traffic management. The individual construction phases had to be tailored accordingly to the specific conditions of the route as well as to ensuring the continuity of traffic flow.
Part of a European transport corridor
The works on the A12 combine road construction and concrete works within a multi-year infrastructure project. In addition to the renewal and widening of the carriageway, the project focused in particular on section-by-section traffic management as well as the integration of new bridges and junction structures into the existing motorway infrastructure.
