BE Volkswohnungen GmbH, has completed a modern turnkey residential complex in Berlin-Lichtenberg. In addition to high-quality residential units, the project also included a daycare center and attractive commercial space.

A variety of housing options across two development sites
Flat sizes range from one- to five-room flats. Of the 395 flats in total, 79 are eligible for housing benefit. Balconies, terraces and gardens complement the private living spaces. Other features of the buildings include underfloor heating, a parcel collection point and an underground waste disposal system. The residential buildings are complemented by landscaped courtyards with play and leisure areas.
Housing, commercial buildings and childcare in one location
In addition to the flats, eight commercial buildings and a nursery have been built. This has brought together different uses across the two development sites within a single neighbourhood development. The open spaces and courtyards complement the buildings and form the transitions between the individual residential areas.
Different designs for the building plots
The two building plots also differ in their façade design. Whilst red tones were used for the northern building plot, green tones characterise the façades of the southern area. In consultation with an ornithologist, nesting boxes were also integrated into the façades.
Residential use complemented by infrastructure
The seven buildings have created a residential area that combines different flat sizes with commercial space and childcare facilities. This mix of uses creates the spatial conditions necessary to bring together housing and complementary services within a single quarter.
