As part of the expansion of a logistics centre of the mail order company Erwin Müller in Buttenwiesen, the Munich branch of PORR Spezialtiefbau was commissioned to construct an approximately 220m long jetcrete wall using the wet mix method, and anchor it with 1,200 soil nails. Construction equipment and fleet management were provided by PORR Equipment Services. The story of the specialist mail-order company Erwin Müller begins in 1951. The company entered the online retail market early on, enabling it to continue on its expansion course well into the 21st century. In order to be able to dispatch orders even faster, the location in Buttenwiesen is being expanded to include a 28m high-bay warehouse with order picking and a company car park. An impressive 80,000m3 of soil was excavated for the new building. The hilly subsoil meant that the slope of the construction pit had to be stabilised.

Stabilising a slope with a jetcrete wall
low-vibration, and environmentally friendly solution to stabilising construction pits and slopes. The bond between the soil nails and the jetcrete shell increases its load-bearing capacity, and the construction pit walls can absorb even very high earth pressures. The greatest advantage is that the structure can be flexibly adapted to steep terrain geometries and individual floor plans. The specialist civil engineering team has played a major role in the development of soil nailing and has general planning approval for its System (Z-20.01-104). The 2,600m2 area in Buttenwiesen was secured in a very short time using the wet mix method selected on site. The retaining structure rises up to an impressive height of 18m. As some areas of the cohesive soil were interspersed with cohesive sand lenses, only small sections of the jetcrete shell could be exposed in places and the soil nails had to be set in a close-meshed grid in these areas. The wall was temporarily protected from low temperatures with the aid of protective sheets and heating so that the team could continue the work during the winter.
What ultimately counts in the construction business is successfully completed projects. PORR has many of these.
