Marzipanfabrik, Building No 11, Hamburg

Hamburg, Germany / 06.2019 - 04.2020

Hamburg-Altona, right by the Bahrenfeld light rail station: a new urban quarter has been under construction here on the former site of the old marzipan factory owned by the Oetker family for several years. The historic factory buildings are being extensively modernised and new buildings designed to harmonise with their architectural surroundings are being added to the site.

PORR is responsible for the construction of Building No 11 and the addition of one storey to an existing building on this site. A new office building designed to harmonise with the existing buildings and featuring an underground car park is being constructed here. Once completed, it will offer a wide range of flexible options, from small sub-units to stand-alone building solutions.
A glass walkway bridges the gap to the existing buildings to ensure that all user requirements can be met.
Our contract is to carry out the extended structural work. This includes the concrete structure, executed entirely in fair-faced concrete quality, a modern façade combining clinker bricks and mullion and transom elements, aluminium windows, and a stacked storey consisting of prefabricated timber elements.

Industrial charm meets contemporary style

A sophisticated visual design

The framed formwork system “Doka Framax Xlife plus” is used to construct the fair-faced concrete walls. This produces a consistent and visually appealing formwork pattern for the fair-faced concrete components, while at the same time guaranteeing cost-effective operations.
While work here is underway, an existing building from the 1950s will be also extended by one storey. A stacked storey will be built on top of the old factory building using the same timber frame construction method.
