Municipal waste landfill "Old Brickworks", Old Golm

The Eisenhüttenstadt branch carried out a particularly responsible contract for KWU Entsorgung, a company owned by the Oder- Spree district: the surface sealing of the "Alte Ziegelei" landfill in Alt Golm near Fürstenwalde. On an area of 4.5 hectares, a final sealing was constructed, on 2.1 hectares, the team upgraded an already existing, temporary surface cover. In addition to the construction of the DK 2 landfill class sealing system, the construction work included the adaptation of the gas collection system, the construction of 430 m of sealed landfill trench and the waste relocation and profiling of 24,000 m3 of waste and construction debris. To protect the health of the machine operators, machines with protective ventilation were used for this.

Eleven hectares of landfill area recultivated for subsequent use
After closure, the final surface sealing and recultivation were carried out in accordance with the strict legal requirements and serve above all to protect the environment and climate. Gas-tight sealing components and gas wells prevent uncontrolled emissions of climate-damaging landfill gases that are produced during the decomposition of organic waste. Watertight sealing components and leachate wells ensure the drainage of contaminated leachate, while leachate infiltration stimulates landfill gas production in the waste body. KWU Entsorgung expects to save about 75,000 t of CO2 over the next 30 years. As part of the contract, the Eisenhüttenstadt team was responsible for expanding and adapting the existing landfill degassing system and the existing leachate infiltration system. Nine gas well head shafts were adapted, 1,400 m of gas pipelines were laid and eight leachate wells were constructed.
