New central station, Münster
Münster, Germany / 03.2015 - 04.2017
By 2013, the transport station in Münster's main railway station had already been made step-free and modernised with a view to the new building. The contract for the structural work of the new reception building of the main station was awarded to Oevermann in a joint venture.
The 150-metre long, 30-metre wide and 14-metre high reception building was erected in three-storey construction on the west side of the railway tracks facing the city. The south-western L-shaped, four-storey existing building remains and was completely renovated.
The main south entrance hall, the north entrance hall and the connecting corridor between these two entrances extend upwards to below the roof ceiling. In this, the elongated glass roof provides natural lighting, ventilation and, in an emergency, smoke extraction. Along the remaining sections of the 1st floor ceiling and the ground floor ceiling run galleries that are connected by bridges.
In addition to the function as an entrance building to the transport station with arrangement of service points, ticket machines and station management, a use for retail and gastronomy is planned for a large part of the building.

New jewel for Münster
During the execution of the work, ongoing railway operations were not affected. The space available was extremely limited. Due to the cramped inner-city location of the construction site, there was little room for manoeuvre in determining the access and exit routes, as well as areas for temporary storage and crane pick-up before work began. All material deliveries were made across the main bus lane with about 500 buses and the approximately 100,000 passengers per day. A logistical masterpiece.
An impressive image is created by the 14-metre-high reinforced concrete composite columns with a diameter of 50 cm, which are arranged in front of the large-scale glass façade.
