New waterworks, Dörenthe

PORR was commissioned to carry out the building excavations as part of a consortium for a new waterworks in Dörenthe/Ibbenbüren. PORR’s experienced team of special civil engineers was tasked with the horizontal sealing process for the pit bottom by applying a soft-gel grout blanket to the existing sheet-piled excavations.
As part of its supply concept, the public utility Wasserversorgungsverband Tecklenburger Land (WTL) decided to build a new waterworks with a water treatment plant in the Dörenthe district of Ibbenbüren, a town in the Tecklenburger Land region. This serves as a replacement for the previous facility, built in 1952, which could not be upgraded and expanded during ongoing operation. A water extraction plant was also constructed on the Dortmund-Ems Canal, with the surface water extracted from there now purified in the new water treatment plant, filtered through layers of soil and treated to produce drinking water.

Soft-gel grout blanket for trough construction pit
Eco-friendly injection method preserves groundwater resources
The high groundwater levels required a 5-metre-deep trough construction pit with sheet piling and a watertight bottom for the foundation of the groundwater treatment plant, which includes a 1,200-m³ clean water tank. As with every project, the special civil engineering experts at Stump-Franki were committed to using a sustainable and environmentally friendly injection method. Stump-Silitight 69 was developed in house and is based on a groundwater-compatible composition that minimises the need for cement. Stump-Franki has general type certification for this method from the Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik (German Institute for Building Technology, DiBt). A team from PORR Spezialtiefbau Planung GmbH drew up the injection plan.
