The contract comprises five buildings containing a total of 64 flats, eight townhouses, four commercial units as well as a shared underground car park with 84 parking spaces.

âWedauer Gärtenâ in Duisburg's 6-Seen-Wedau district
From a freight yard to a new neighbourhood
The Wedauer Gärten are being developed on the site of the former freight yard in the south of Duisburg. Covering an area of around 60 ha, the 6-Seen-Wedau neighbourhood is being developed there, comprising four sub-districts and a total of around 3,000 flats. The project is situated in the âNeue Gartenstadtâ sub-district and covers an area of more than 15,600 m². The master planner agnâs design draws inspiration from the historic garden city of Wedau in its building layout.
Living in the âNeue Gartenstadtâ
The five building blocks comprise four multi-family blocks with basements, containing 64 residential units, as well as eight terraced townhouses with basements. Four commercial units are also planned within one of the multi-family blocks.
Single-storey gateway buildings connect parts of the development. The buildings are accessed via a shared underground car park with 84 parking spaces. Internal courtyards and front gardens complement the open spaces between the buildings.
Construction and design
The buildings will be constructed using a combination of reinforced concrete and masonry. Ceramic cladding bricks will be used for large sections of the façades. Different joint colours will create design accents, particularly around the windows. The aim is for the buildings to meet the BEG-40 standard. The planned building concept also includes green roofs, photovoltaic systems as well as charging points for electric vehicles.
Turnkey implementation
PORR is responsible for the turnkey construction of the buildings. Lean Construction is being used to manage and coordinate the construction processes. The project also continues the collaboration between VIVAWEST and PORR Building Construction Region West.
A building block in the development of 6-Seen-Wedau
The Wedauer Gärten represent a further residential component within the âNeue Gartenstadtâ sub-district. The apartment blocks, townhouses, commercial spaces and the shared underground car park lay the structural foundations for the future use of this area and form part of the phased development of the former goods yard site into a new urban district.
