The company specialises in railway construction in Germany and specifically expands PORR’s range of services in the field of rail infrastructure.
Knape Bahnbau works closely with other units of the PORR Group, leveraging synergies, modern technology and extensive experience from infrastructure and major projects. This enables complex railway construction projects – from planning and construction to the maintenance of track and points systems as well as railway traffic facilities – to be carried out efficiently and from a single source.
Our services include the new construction, maintenance and refurbishment of track and points systems as well as railway traffic facilities. In addition, we deliver turnkey railway lines. As experienced specialists, we undertake all work relating to track systems – from traditional track construction and railway-specific civil engineering to underground cable works, including cable laying and the installation of fibre-optic cables (FOC).

Slab Track Austria.
Slab Track Austria’s slab track represents a modern and future-proof technology in track construction. The modular and flexibly adaptable system impresses with maximum track accuracy whilst requiring minimal maintenance. Thanks to industrial prefabrication under controlled factory conditions, installation is particularly efficient – only a few steps are required on site.
The slab track is based on a ballastless superstructure, the central element of which is the elastically mounted track support slab made of loosely reinforced concrete with integrated rail supports. Elastic separation layers at the base of the slab and in the conical grouting openings ensure structural decoupling and effectively reduce vibration and structure-borne noise. Installation takes place on a low-settlement substructure consisting of a concrete base course and a hydraulically bound base course, both of which are approved in accordance with the requirements of the German Federal Railway Authority (EBA). Following precise fine-alignment, the track support slab is grouted with self-compacting concrete, which further enhances the system’s durability and operational reliability.

This advanced machinery and equipment guarantees the efficient, precise and timely completion of our railway construction and cable civil engineering projects.
Our state-of-the-art dual-mode technology enables flexible deployment at various locations along the railway line.
Using D3 crawler machines equipped with innovative 3D control systems, we ensure the rapid and precise installation of protective layers and ballast beds.
For cable trenching as well as the construction of drainage and verging systems, we have soil cutters with transfer trailers at our disposal.
Our equipment is complemented by versatile specialist transport vehicles.
