A66 Salzbachtal bridge: Final spurt for north bridge

/ Structural engineering / Press Release

The A66 Salzbachtal Bridge infrastructure project in Wiesbaden is making great strides forward. ARGE PORR / Plauen Stahl Technologie is realising the replacement construction of the bridge on behalf of the federal motorway company Autobahn GmbH. The penultimate advance of the northern Salzbachtal bridge was safely completed in mid-April.

On 16 April 2024, the superstructure of the north bridge was moved across the Salzbachtal valley for the fourth time using the incremental launching method. The superstructure, which now weighs 2,800 tonnes, covered a distance of around 89 metres to the next bridge pier.

Work on schedule

Adherence to deadlines is a top priority for Autobahn GmbH in order to improve the capacity and safety of the road network in the region as quickly as possible. Now that the penultimate advance has been completed, the project is well on the way to being completed on schedule.

"The consortium is working at full speed together with the client on this important project," says project manager Markus Jahn. "The final tunnelling will take place on schedule in June 2024. Then it's time for the final spurt: the carriageway slab will be sealed and the bridge caps will be constructed. Finally, the asphalt surface will be laid and the railings and safety equipment installed."

Important piece of the puzzle for a modern and intact infrastructure network

The construction of the northern Salzbachtal bridge is helping to modernise the regional infrastructure and improve the quality of life for people in Wiesbaden and the surrounding area. The completion of the overall project represents a significant improvement to the transport routes in the Rhine-Main region.
