Simplex piles
Cast-in-place concrete driven pile for deep foundations with full soil displacement

The Simplex pile is a cast-in-place concrete driven pile in accordance with DIN EN 12699 and is used as a deep foundation element for various structures. As the soil is fully displaced, no conventional soil excavation is required during construction. Depending on project requirements and ground conditions, different pile dimensions and embedment lengths can be provided.

The Simplex pile is used in particular for construction projects involving a large number of piles or where load-bearing soil layers are located at depth. Selection and design are based on the geological, technical and project-specific constraints.

The Simplex pile is a cast-in-place concrete driven pile in accordance with DIN EN 12699 and is used as a deep foundation element for various structures. As it fully displaces the subsoil, no conventional soil excavation is required during construction. Depending on the subsoil conditions and project requirements, different pile dimensions and embedment lengths can be provided.

Simplex piles are used, amongst other things, for:

  • Logistics warehouses
  • Industrial buildings
  • Wind turbines
  • Silos
  • High-bay storage facilities
  • Crane runways
  • Heavy-duty areas

Benefits / Features

The Simplex pile is used in particular for construction projects involving a large number of piles and greater embedment depths. As a cast-in-place concrete driven pile, the method is primarily used where noise emissions from pile driving can be taken into account on a project-specific basis.

  • Scope of application: Use in construction projects involving a large number of piles and greater embedment depths.
  • Pile resistance: Depending on the subsoil conditions, characteristic pile resistances Rk of up to 6,000 kN are possible.
  • Soil management: Complete soil displacement without conventional soil excavation.
  • Pile dimensioning: Design in accordance with project- and subsoil-specific requirements.
  • Load transfer: Suitable for a variety of load and ground conditions.
  • Operating conditions: Can also be used on contaminated sites.
  • Design variants: Can be designed as an energy pile.

Fundamentals of Manufacturing

The design and manufacture of Simplex piles are carried out in accordance with Eurocode 7 and DIN EN 12699, as well as the recommendations of the ‘Piles’ Working Group (EA-Pfähle). The diameter can range from 42 to 61 cm. Pile lengths of up to 40 m are possible.

The Simplex pile is a cast-in-place concrete driven pile with a reused jacking pipe. The bottom of the jacking pipe is sealed watertight with a base plate. A hydraulic pile driver drives the pipe into the ground using top-down driving. The driving energy expended during this process, measured in blows per metre, is an indication of the bearing capacity of the ground at the respective pile location. Once the target depth or the ramming criteria have been reached, a reinforcement cage is installed, concrete is poured in and the jacking pipe is withdrawn.

Quality assurance

The requirements of the relevant European and national standards must be observed to ensure quality assurance during construction. Our Simplex piles are designed and manufactured in accordance with Eurocode 7 and DIN EN 12 699 and the recommendations of the “Piles” working group (EA-Pfähle). Self-monitoring and documentation of construction are regulated in the manufacturing standards.

A procedure instruction that is individually adapted to the requirements of the relevant project is required to install Simplex piles. The machine operator’s instincts are just as important as his technical knowledge or experience. Operating the large special equipment is a delicate process that requires optimal tuning of the manufacturing parameters to achieve the desired pile resistance.

We ensure high execution quality with:

  • Individually coordinated instructions
  • Compliance with the requirements of DIN EN 12 699, Eurocode 7 and EA-Pfähle
  • Clear processes via our quality management system in accordance with DIN EN 9001:2015
  • Static or dynamic pile load testing
  • Pile integrity tests
