The Neue Pinakothek is a leading institution in Munich and houses numerous masterpieces of European art from the Enlightenment to the early modern period. The museum has been closed since 2019 due to extensive renovation work. As part of these works, PORR Spezialtiefbau GmbH was commissioned to carry out complex jet grouting work.

The aim of the work is to reinforce the foundations within the historic building. Using the jet grouting process, load-bearing cement-soil bodies are created directly beneath the existing foundations. This enables extensive structural alterations to be carried out safely inside the building. These include, amongst other things, new technical installations, lift shafts and measures to improve accessibility.

The particular challenge lies in carrying out works within a listed building under cramped inner-city conditions. The method used enables precise and low-vibration execution. At the same time, settlement is minimised and large-scale excavation work is avoided. This ensures that the historic building fabric is protected as effectively as possible.

For the client, this means the highest level of certainty regarding execution, combined with cost-effective implementation. Adherence to the schedule and cost control are just as much a focus as the high quality of execution.

An additional advantage stems from the integrated project management within PORR. The detailed construction and installation planning was carried out by PORR Spezialtiefbau Planung GmbH. This reduces interfaces, simplifies coordination and ensures an efficient construction process.

With this project, PORR is making an important contribution to the sustainable development of one of Munich’s most iconic museum buildings. The aim is to preserve the historic fabric whilst creating the conditions for modern use.
