Successful handover at the Elisabeth Selbert House in Berlin
/ Building construction
PORR is relying on its comprehensive in-house expertise for the new construction of the Elisabeth Selbert House, a major project in Berlin's historic centre. PORR Spezialtiefbau started with the planning and construction of the complex construction pit, including sealing slabs and construction pit enclosure, and underpinning of the neighbouring building. Since the end of March 2025, PORR Hochbau Berlin has been continuing the shell construction work. pde Integrale Planung is responsible for BIM coordination.
L-shaped building with three components
The future office and administration building for the German Bundestag consists of three clearly structured components. Along Unter den Linden, a six-storey block with a recessed penthouse floor is being constructed. Parallel to Schadowstraße, a narrower structure with a shortened staggered storey harmoniously connects to the listed Schadowhaus. A striking undercut at the junction of the building wings forms the spacious entrance foyer, where a sculptural spiral staircase visible from the outside is an architectural highlight.
Digital planning for precise implementation
Just one month after the start of construction, the floor slab of the first building section was concreted. Ten days later, the entire foundation level was already complete. Due to the high groundwater level in this part of Berlin, the entire basement was additionally sealed against moisture with a fresh concrete composite membrane.
‘We are mastering the complex requirements of this project thanks to innovative technologies and efficient Lean management methods. In the execution planning, especially in the collision check between architecture, building services engineering and structural engineering, we rely on Building Information Modelling. In addition, we optimise our processes through Lean Management,’ explains Andreas Kimling, Regional Manager East for Building Construction.
