PORR is pressing ahead with work on the SuedOstLink according to plan

Magdeburg , / Transport route engineering

Anyone driving along the section of the SuedOstLink built by PORR today will find, in many places, fields and paths that were still building sites just a few months ago. This is precisely where the progress of this infrastructure project becomes apparent.

Whilst construction is still under way elsewhere, large sections of the route have already been completed on the PORR section.

Whilst construction is still underway elsewhere, large sections of the route on the PORR section have already been completed. The cable ducts are in place, most of the jointing points have been installed, and the first areas have already been handed back to the land managers. Behind this visible transformation lies a construction programme that is currently ahead of the originally planned schedule.

Numerous tasks are currently being carried out in parallel on the construction site. The PORR Verkehrswegebau team will complete the cable conduit installation work as early as October. At the same time, 16 of the 18 jointing points and jointing pits will have been completed. Backfilling work is also already beginning on the first construction sections, meaning that the construction site is gradually disappearing and the landscape is regaining its familiar appearance.

Work is ahead of schedule

As things stand, the work is ahead of the contractually agreed construction schedule. Factors contributing to the current progress include the use of a patented installation technology as well as the coordinated organisation of the construction site. Three crews working in parallel are utilising a patented installation technology, which has enabled time savings compared with the original construction schedule.

At the same time, numerous work stages along the route must be closely co-ordinated. The success of this is evident every day on the construction site: whilst construction is still underway at one point, work to restore the land is already in progress just a few kilometres further on

Progress is now also becoming visible to people living along the route. Work on cable pulling has been underway in the first completed sections since autumn 2025. Landowners are having their land returned to them, paths are being restored and the construction site is moving on.

The SuedOstLink is one of the key projects for the expansion of Germany’s electricity transmission infrastructure. With the milestones achieved so far, PORR has completed significant construction work on its section of the project. The empty cable conduits that have been laid, the jointing stations that have been constructed as well as the cable pulling work that has already begun form the basis for the next phases of the project.
