Topping-out ceremony at the ‘Antons Insel’ residential development marks another step towards modern living

The topping-out ceremony for the “Antons Insel” residential development in Leipzig-Reudnitz marked the successful completion of an important phase of construction. Together with the client PROPOS, project stakeholders, subcontractors and the Hochbau Ost team, PORR celebrated the visible progress of the new residential neighbourhood.
Two modern residential blocks comprising a total of 102 residential units are being built on Kippenbergstraße. The site, where construction is still under way, will be transformed by 2027 into a vibrant residential area featuring 49 owner-occupied flats and 53 apartments. The project name “Antons Insel” pays tribute to Anton Kippenberg, the long-standing director of Insel Verlag, and thus draws on a piece of Leipzig’s cultural history. The project combines urban living with sustainable construction principles and exemplifies the implementation of PORR’s “Green and Lean” strategy.
The topping-out ceremony was celebrated in the traditional manner with the recitation of the topping-out verse, the raising of the topping-out wreath and the symbolic hammering in of the topping-out nails. This centuries-old tradition honours the efforts of everyone involved in the construction and marks a significant step towards the project’s completion.
“A topping-out ceremony is always a special moment: it shows what can be achieved through partnership, commitment and craftsmanship,” agreed Martin Menrad, client representative for PROPOS, and Andreas Kimling, Regional Manager of PORR Building Construction Region East. Together, they looked back on the successes to date and ahead to the upcoming construction phases leading up to the planned completion in October 2027.
