On behalf of Straßen.NRW’s Sauerland-Hochstift regional branch, PORR has been carrying out the comprehensive refurbishment of the junction since April 2026. The Münster Road Construction Division is responsible for key road construction works. The project will run until December 2026 and involves the simultaneous repair of two bridge structures as well as the complete renewal of the road surface.

Work in step with traffic

On site, traffic dictates the construction schedule: the project is divided into three construction phases, during each of which specific sections of the junction are worked on. Whilst one section is being milled and rebuilt, traffic in neighbouring areas continues to flow.

This phased construction approach requires all work steps to be precisely coordinated. Asphalt works and the repair of structural elements are closely interlinked; any delay has an immediate impact on the overall process. The coordination of the various trades must therefore be carefully managed.

The construction site as a coordinated system

On site, it becomes clear that the real challenge lies in coordination: material deliveries, changes between construction phases and traffic management mesh together like cogs in a gearwheel. The construction site thus becomes a dynamic system in its own right, in which technical processes and traffic requirements are continuously synchronised.

“The precise coordination of all trades throughout the construction phases is crucial,” explains Senior Site Manager Kai Pusdrowski-Sales of PORR Verkehrswegebau. “This is the only way to ensure both construction progress and traffic management at the same time.”

This project exemplifies the shift in road construction towards the structured upgrading of existing infrastructure. By combining structural repairs, road resurfacing and the adaptation of safety barriers, the long-term performance of the junction is safeguarded.
